Dr. Sonia Coman-Ernstoff is the Audience Engagement Strategist at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art. In this role, she leads the museum’s Marketing and Communications team. Dr. Coman has had wide-ranging experience in strategic planning and cultural product marketing. She has a B.A. from Harvard University (Magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Her dissertation contributed new research on Japanese-inspired French ceramics and new interdisciplinary methods such as social network analysis in the arts. Dr. Coman serves on the Editorial Board of Brill’s Journal of Japonisme and as co-editor of the De Gruyter Series in Organizational and Management History. She is a regular contributor to Smarthistory, the world’s most visited digital art history resource, and the author of interdisciplinary articles on identity formation in the creative industries, cross-cultural exchange, the history of collecting, and cultural networks.
