Sorah Seong is an art and culture aficionada with a passion for applying technology to various cultural fields (art, music, fashion, etc…) to discover humanity’s hidden cultural rhythms and talents. As someone who studies online crowds as a management scholar but also grew up training professionally as an artist and a musician, she fell in love with NFTs, which she considers crowds’ uncoordinated cultural expression of a technology. Sorah is currently an Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Washington, Foster Business School, where she teaches entrepreneurship and strategic management. Her research focuses on how online crowds emerge and evolve in a way that influences the emergence of new market spaces and why some entrepreneurial firms succeed in leveraging the emerging opportunity through semantic strategies while others fail. Her work has been recognized nationally and internationally. Most recently, she was selected as one of the world’s Top 50 Undergraduate Business Professors by Poets & Quants.
Sorah is also a firm believer in bridging theory and practice, and in that vein, she has been working actively with several early-stage startups, particularly at the intersection of technology and art. Sorah holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a secondary degree in Visual and Environmental Studies (VES) from Harvard College, a joint MSc degree in Theory and History of International Relations from London School of Economics (LSE), and a PhD in Management from INSEAD.
