Founder and medical director of Chu Vision Institute and Chu Surgery Center, Dr. Chu is an internationally recognized leader in cataract and refractive surgery. He is a fellowship-trained corneal specialist whose practice focuses on cataract, refractive, cornea and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries.

Dr. Chu received his BA/MD from Northwestern University Feinberg school of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed an internship at Evanston Hospital, an ophthalmology residency at Duke University Eye Center and a one-year fellowship in cornea and external disease, refractive, glaucoma, cataract and lens implant surgery in Minneapolis.

Chu Vision Institute was created with excellence in patient care as a driving force. Dr. Chu is dedicated to giving every patient an individualized and personalized experience. Dr. Chu and his team empower patients through education with a goal to improve their vision and transform their lives.

Through participation in over 95 clinical evaluations or FDA clinical trials, Dr. Chu works diligently to bring new technologies to his practice. Dr. Chu has designed surgical instruments to improve surgical results and accuracy that are still in use today. Dr. Chu was the first provider in Minnesota to offer SMILE vision correction and continues to be the only surgeon in Minnesota to provide this refractive option. In addition, Dr. Chu was the first in Minnesota to offer laser assisted cataract surgery with the VICTUS Femtosecond Laser, the first to utilize the Zeiss VisuMax laser system in Minnesota and the first to introduce corneal inlays to improve reading vision to the Minneapolis/Twin Cities area.
Dr. Chu has lectured and taught physicians on nearly every continent and is a much sought-after speaker, both nationally and internationally, regarding cataract and refractive surgery. As a prominent global lecturer and surgeon, Dr. Chu is a leading authority on modern technological advances in cataract, refractive and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. He is currently the Chairman of Strategic Partner Relations and the Past-President of the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgical Society (OOSS). Dr. Chu sits on the board for the Society of Excellence in Eyecare (SEE), is an editorial board member for Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today (CRST) and holds numerous other professional memberships. In addition, Dr. Chu has been published in multiple peer reviewed publications and has been featured in Eyeworld Magazine and Review of Ophthalmology.

Following his passion to treat preventable blindness around the globe, Dr. Chu formed the Chu Vision Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing education, vision correction surgery, technology and resources to underserved communities locally and globally. The Chu Vision Foundation has participated in local and global missions to provide critical vision services, procedures and education in underserved communities.
